Discipleship is the unifying theme of GRC’s ministries

Jesus’ last words to his disciples were a command to grow the church. We read his words today and think of a full portfolio of ministries or big evangelistic events to attract visitors. At the very least, we may think Jesus’ Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 explicitly instructs his followers to engage in world missions or in personal evangelism. If so, we miss the simplicity at the heart of his command: “Make Disciples.”

Jesus had modeled this by investing his few years of public ministry in the lives of 12 men. He lived out the apostle Paul’s affectionate words to the Thessalonian church: “We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us.” (1 Thessalonians 2:8).

Grace Redeemer Church desires to make Jesus known throughout the world. We want to see our neighbors, friends and family members come to know and trust in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We also want our own members to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus (2 Peter 3:18). In light of Jesus’ last command, we believe a Disciple-Making strategy is THE catalyst to make these goals a reality! We seek to emulate Jesus whose ministry was all about people and relationships, not all about program and calendar.

What does this look like here at GRC? Discipleship goes beyond formal discipleship groups in which a group of men or a group of women commit to extended time with another in Bible study, in deep sharing of life, and in service to God. Discipleship is a biblical approach that impacts every ministry here at GRC using Colossians 1:28 as a foundation: “[Christ] is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.” We want to invest in one another’s lives—from infants to seniors– and cultivate authentic biblical community, while trusting in the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to heal our brokenness.

Our Mission Statement:

GRC aims to make disciples of Jesus Christ, to mature them into the glorious likeness of the Savior, and to send them to engage the Least and the Lost in our culture, with the transforming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We don’t believe disciple-making is a unique program or ministry that stands on its own. Discipleship is the model of Christ’s personal investment in the lives of his closest followers. This core strategy for church growth and health recognizes that our fellowship with God (vertically) is the fuel for our fellowship with one another (horizontally). There can be no growth without the foundation of God’s truth, revealed in His Word (the Bible) which is all about His Son, Jesus! At the same time, there can be no growth in Christ without the one-anothering of biblical community. Discipleship is an intentional focus on sharing life together as fellow broken sinners who are in need of the healing power of the Gospel!

Men’s Ministry

“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” —Proverbs 27:17

Grace Redeemer’s Men’s Ministry exists to bring the men of Northern NJ into a life-transforming encounter with the Kingdom of God. In Christ, men live out their God-given design as Scripture-shaped friends, humble leaders, prayerful husbands, valuable employees, and strong fathers. We encourage this growth through Bible studies, discipleship, serving together, and simply encouraging good friendship. The men’s ministry helps men live as brothers encouraging, supporting, and challenging one another to glorify God in life’s daily-grind. We want to equip men to be effective disciples, wise counselors, and growing models of the Christian life. Newcomers to GRC are especially welcome to connect!

Women’s Ministry

“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  —Romans 15:5-6

Grace Redeemer’s Women’s Ministry exists to help women live God-centered lives. We encourage one another to live Christ-like lives of grace and truth—marked by unity, mercy, love, prayer and ministry. Our vision is that each woman of GRC would daily and intimately experience Christ’s life-changing love so she reflects Christ’s light to a lost and dying world.

Crossroads  – Young Adults

The Crossroads ministry of Grace Redeemer Church is designed to connect young adults with one another in a setting where friendship and Christian discipleship is fostered. Part of discipleship is recognizing your role in the body of Christ, his church. In addition to Sunday morning worship, we believe one key component to Christian maturity is involvement in a small group, which we call Growth Groups.

Grace Redeemer’s Youth Ministry exists to bring the youth of Northern NJ into a life transforming encounter with the Kingdom of God. Our ministry is centered around the best news in the whole world: the gospel of Jesus Christ, which alone has the power to save (Rom. 1:16-17), and we want every teen to have a relationship with God through Christ. We pursue spiritual formation in our teens through Bible study and teaching, apologetics, mentoring, mission trips and projects, and other special events.
